We are looking for the Director, Expense Management, Canada who will report to the AVP, Business Expense Management. In this critical role you will lead oversight and execution of planning, management reporting and expense management for Canadian lines of business. You will provide leadership and manage a team supporting business partners, while promoting collaboration across business leaders, and performance management.
What you will do:
- Expense planning and forecasting, management reporting and general expense management for $1 billion annual expense multiple divisions including process and analysis
- Build partnership with business partners and performance management teams, and actively challenge / interject to ensure expense growth of supported divisions is commensurate with targets and business volume growth
- Preparation of management reporting packages for business partners, performance management, and other CFO teams.
- Ensure expenses are in accordance with financial internal controls and financial processes as well as generally accepted accounting principles.
- Support business casing and benefit tracking of initiatives for business partners
- Lead, coach and develop a team of professionals to high standards of performance, strong support of business and other partners and propel changes within the team
- Fosters an environment that encourages new approaches, challenges the status quo and inspires creativity
What you will bring:
- 5+ years’ experience in financial management including expense reporting, planning, and expense management, with at least 3-5 years of experience leading people and processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, understanding of Canada Life’s business.
- Able to foster collaborative relationships across the business and other financial leaders and facilitate cooperation in a complex matrixed organization
- Strong communications skills that enable sharing results to both technical and less technical audiences.
- Ability and openness to leading continual change and improvements in processes
- Strong leadership skills and ability to attract, motivate the right team to achieve key goals and support strategic partnerships
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent would be an asset
Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Toronto, London, Winnipeg.

The base salary for this position is between $128,200 - $178,200 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
