Dev Ops Engineer (Student Position)

This is a student position that is 4 months in duration for the term: January - April. You must be a student registered in a Canadian College or University.  

This position is for students returning to school after their work term or requiring a placement as requirements for graduation. While not required, preference will be given to students enrolled in a registered Co-op program.

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer Student who is interested in learning how modern technology platforms are built, delivered, and supported within a large enterprise environment.

As part of an agile squad, you will work alongside experienced developers, engineers, and technology professionals to help support the tools, systems, and processes that enable the delivery of customer-focused solutions. You will gain exposure to DevOps practices, automation, cloud technologies, and continuous delivery while contributing to meaningful projects that support Canada Life's digital strategy.

 

What You'll Do

  • Support the monitoring, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of systems, services, and tools that enable software delivery and operations
  • Assist in deploying new capabilities and enhancements while learning and applying DevOps principles and best practices
  • Participate in agile squad activities through the development, maintenance, and automation of tools and processes
  • Contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) initiatives that enable efficient and reliable software deployments
  • Assist with building new solutions and supporting the migration of existing capabilities to modern technology platforms
  • Help automate current processes and interfaces while contributing to infrastructure and operational standards
  • Collaborate with developers, operations teams, and other technology partners to support system reliability and performance
  • Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge-sharing activities, and operational best practices
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends while bringing new ideas and perspectives to the team
  • Gain exposure to a broad range of technology disciplines, including infrastructure, software development, operations, automation, and quality assurance

 

What You'll Be Working With

You may gain experience with several of the following technologies, tools, and practices (experience in all is not required):

  • Cloud Technologies: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • DevOps & Automation: CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, source code management, and configuration management
  • Programming & Scripting: Java, scripting languages, and automation tooling
  • Containers & Platforms: Docker, Kubernetes, and modern application platforms
  • Development Practices: Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Infrastructure & Operations: Windows and Linux operating systems, monitoring, support, and operational processes
  • Databases & Integration: Relational and NoSQL databases, APIs, microservices, and event-streaming technologies such as Kafka

 

What You Bring

  • Currently in your second-year or higher and pursuing a post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline
  • Strong academic achievement and a passion for technology and continuous learning
  • Innovative problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality work
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a timely manner
  • Collaborative team player who is also comfortable working independently
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and taking on new challenges

 

Nice to Have (Assets)

  • Exposure to cloud computing technologies
  • Experience with programming, automation, or scripting through coursework or personal projects
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure automation
  • Understanding of APIs, microservices, or distributed systems
  • Experience working on team-based academic projects or within an agile environment

The base salary for this position is between $43,400 - $71,900 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.

For our student opportunities, the base salary will be dependent on the number of work terms you have completed along with other factors depending on your program.
