We are looking for an Associate Manager, Taxation, to join our high performing Taxation department to assist with the Income Tax Reporting function for The Canada Life Assurance Company (“CLA”), a Canadian Life Insurance company, and its Canadian subsidiaries.
As an Associate Manager, Taxation, your role is responsible for tax reporting and compliance for CLA and its Canadian subsidiaries. This includes preparation and analysis of the quarterly tax provision under IFRS, budgeting for Canadian taxes and filing annual tax returns.
Reporting to the Director Taxation, the Associate Manager, Taxation will assist in investigating, researching and analyzing tax issues for the purpose of tax accounting, special transactions and/or Canadian tax matters.
Core Accountabilities:
- Prepare and analyze quarterly and year-end income tax provisions, and balances under IFRS for financial statements and management reporting purposes
- Prepare and analyze the annual budget for Canadian financial and management reporting purposes
- Prepare and analyze the annual tax returns and related information returns for Canadian corporations
- Analyze, research and document tax considerations that arose from the preparation and review of the above provisions and returns
- Assist in analysis of special transactions, including identifying and documenting Canadian tax matters
- Assist with CRA tax audits
- Assist in coaching and training of staff members
Qualifications and Competencies:
- University degree in a business-related field
- Currently enrolled/ completion of a professional accounting designation (or equivalent)
- 2 - 4 years taxation/accounting experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple demands and competing priorities to achieve required results
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and also work collaboratively in a team environment
- Passion for developing others and developing a high-performance culture
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Excel; experience in SAP and/or Longview Tax is an asset

The base salary for this position is between $80,400 - $130,400 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
