The Money Market Investment team is responsible for managing Canada Life’s liquidity along with the liquidity of certain segregated funds. The team also supports Great-West Lifeco’s corporate initiatives related to acquisitions, dividends, and financing activities, which require short-term investments and foreign exchange transactions.
As an Associate Director, you will play a key role in managing the money market portfolios and overseeing daily cash management activities. This includes preparing and reviewing cash management forecasts, executing trades, and ensuring optimal liquidity positioning. The portfolio currently exceeds $2 billion, and annual trading volumes are more than $25 billion. You will interact daily with the investment dealer community and collaborate closely with portfolio managers and banking operations. Staying informed on economic developments and market conditions will be critical to supporting investment decisions.
This position requires a strong understanding of money market instruments and related markets, with the ability to contribute to portfolio management strategy and execution. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily liquidity and cash positioning for Canada Life and select segregated funds.
- Prepare and review cash management forecasts for investment purposes.
- Execute short-term investment and foreign exchange transactions.
- Monitor market conditions and economic developments to inform decision-making.
- Maintain strong relationships with the investment dealer community.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including portfolio managers and banking operations.
- Contribute to process improvements and risk management initiatives within the money market function.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in business, finance, or accounting.
- CFA designation or active pursuit of the designation would be preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in money markets, fixed income, or related investment roles.
- Strong analytical and computer skills, including proficiency with trading and portfolio management systems.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise and multi-task in a high-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to make and support sound investment recommendations.
The base salary for this position is between $57,000 - $97,000 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
