Vice President, Strategy

We’re actively seeking a VP, Strategy for our Canadian business!

 

Reporting to the SVP, Business Modernization, Canada the VP, Strategy will lead, drive and support the continuous evolution and implementation of our Canadian strategy and business unit strategies, in-line with our purpose of improving the financial, physical and mental well-being of Canadians, and aligned also with our long-term value creation objectives.  The VP, Strategy will work closely with the Canadian President and COO and also provide direct support to senior management and executives on key strategic questions and issues. The VP will lead and develop the Strategy team and foster a collaborative and high-performing culture.

 

What you will do

  • Continuously evolve and support the implementation of a clear strategic vision for our Canadian business and each business unit, in-line with our purpose, consistent with market dynamics and aligned to our stakeholders’ expectations and our long-term value creation objectives
  • Lead strategic initiatives that may include matters relating to commercial strategy, organizational structure, corporate planning and resourcing, thought leadership, developing complex analysis and recommendations, preparing and presenting Board and executive quality output
  • Play a key role building and developing team members including strategic toolkit, communications and technical skills
  • Provide support for Executive Management Committee (“EMC”) meetings including drafting agenda, preparing material and assisting in the preparation of board meeting materials
  • Establish key performance indicators and metrics to monitor the success of strategic initiatives and regularly report on performance to identify areas for improvement
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, industry experts, thought leaders, and strategic partners.  This includes each business and functional leader; this includes oversight functions, in particular finance (ensuring strategy and long-term financial plans are aligned), risk/compliance (ensuring strategy and execution risk are managed and that strategy is resilient)  
  • Leverage data insights to drive business growth, improve operational efficiency, and enhance overall performance

  

What you will bring

  • 10+ years experience working in corporate strategy and/or at a top tier management consulting firm
  • Demonstrated track record of thought leadership, influence and successful development and execution of high impact strategic initiatives at the business unit and portfolio/holding company levels
  • External orientation and ability to develop strong understanding of market trends, changing customer expectations and value creation levers across workplace, wealth management and insurance segments, and across financial services more broadly, in Canada and internationally
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written); are credible, compelling, and persuasive with executive and board level stakeholders and audiences
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels; ease and confidence working with executives, supporting a history of establishing trusted advisory relationships
  • Understands how to structure work and projects to get things done with a bias towards action
  • Driven by data and analytics with a high attention to detail and focus on quality
  • Ability to recruit and build strategy teams, including strong coaching and mentoring skills to develop junior team members
  • Highly adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
