VP, Disability Management Service Office (DMSO)

The purpose of the VP, DMSO is to provide overall leadership to the Group Disability Management Service Office across the country, with a total of 14 locations in Canada and a team of over 1000. In this role you will develop and lead high performance teams which contribute to the competitive advantage of Canada Life by ensuring effective disability management processes and practices are followed and delivered through superior customer service. Disability operations has a significant and material impact on our market position and bottom-line results.
What you will do:
- Support the Workplace Benefits and Retirement business unit with earnings performance through achievement of disability morbidity results by effectively delivering best practices and a strong focus on case management principles and, review of morbidity results and ongoing monitoring of case management performance.
- Support sales and retention by providing excellence in customer service in the field, meeting client service expectations, developing and implementing disability programs for regional and national clients, attending client meetings as required to ensure we’re delivering on needs.
- Expand our service dashboards to ensure we are tracking the right KPIs to deliver best-in-class service to our members and sponsors.
- Ensure governance, regulatory and litigation risks are effectively managed to maintain Canada Life’s reputation and a continuous learning is engrained to maintain industry leadership in disability management.
- Contribute and participate in long term strategic planning. Establish and communicate strategic directions and priorities and ensure employees and leaders are aligned with achievement of division goals.
- Lead & support initiatives to optimize unit costs and make improvements which support Canada Life as a market leader in Canada.
What you will bring:
- 10-15 years’ experience in an operational leadership role with large, national, customer-focused teams, preferable in a group benefits or insurance environment. Disability management experience is an asset.
- Exceptional leadership including a track record of building and refreshing high performance teams who demonstrate a drive to continuously improve processes and ways of working; ability to build delivery-focused teams
- Strong capabilities in designing and implementing enterprise-scale transformational and change initiatives within a global, matrix environment
- Strong analytical skills, and ability to work with large amounts of data and risk models; sound judgement
- Strategic thinker, with ability to synthesize information into a strategic direction, and approach in a way that leads to effective delivery of the strategy
- Excellent stakeholder management at all levels of an organization; ability to break down and effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a range of audiences across the organization
- Thrives in an environment that is complex and constantly evolving
- As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (fluent in French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position will regularly work with our clients with French and English-speaking needs
