The Senior Technical Lead – Data Technology is accountable for the technical design, delivery, and operational stability of enterprise data solutions. This role leads a team of Data Engineers and Data Developers and acts as the senior technical authority for data platforms and pipelines.

 

What you will do:

  • Lead the design and delivery of scalable data solutions using SQL, Azure Databricks, and enterprise ETL frameworks across on‑prem and cloud platforms.
  • Own technical execution for assigned initiatives, including detailed solution design, design and code reviews, and enforcement of engineering and data quality standards.
  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership and mentorship to Data Engineers and Data Developers, supporting skill development and consistent delivery practices.
  • Manage the successful delivery of multiple critical data initiatives annually across Individual Insurance, Wealth, Advisory Network, and Canada Operations, translating business requirements into secure, reliable data solutions.
  • Lead a cross-functional delivery team of both technology and business resources, establishing clear ownership, delivery plans, and accountability for scope, quality, and timelines.
  • Partner with Architecture, Security, Data Governance, and Risk teams to ensure solutions and applications align with enterprise standards, regulatory requirements, and audit expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with Business, Product, and Operational stakeholders across Individual - Wealth, Insurance, Advisor, Client, Compensation, Actuarial, and Operations to shape feasible delivery approaches and align outcomes to KPIs and analytics needs.
  • Proactively identify and manage technical, data quality, security, and operational risks, ensuring platform stability, performance, and production support readiness.
  • Manage assigned budgets for data platform maintenance and enhancements, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, optimize costs, and modernize capabilities.
  • Act as a trusted technical counterpart for senior leaders by clearly communicating delivery risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to enable informed decision-making.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert across multiple data domains, providing practical recommendations that improve customer and advisor experience and deliver measurable business value.

 

What you will bring:

  • Deep understanding of SQL and dimensional data modeling principles, with demonstrated ability to lead and oversee the design of scalable, high‑quality analytical data solutions.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience leading the delivery of data solutions across Azure Databricks and on‑prem relational databases, including database design, data modeling, transformation logic, and performance optimization.
  • Established record of mentoring engineers, influencing design decisions, and driving consistent engineering standards.
  • Strong ability to translate complex business needs into feasible technical solutions and clearly communicate trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in large, complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders, governance structures, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Financial services industry experience (Wealth, Insurance, or related domains) is considered a strong asset.
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada  website.  The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.

The base salary for this position is between $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
