Sales Director, Group Retirement

Reporting directly to the VP Group Retirement Savings (GRS), as the National Accounts Sales director, you will be responsible for the national leadership of our Group Retirement sales team dealing with direct clients and through the national consulting house distribution channel.

 

What you will do 

  • Work closely with the VP GRS, developing strategy and planning for our success in the National Accounts GRS market. 
  • Execute in the direct leadership of relationships with the national consulting houses.
  • Assume executive sponsorship with large national clients as required.
  • Execute and achieve sales, persistency and profitability target annually within this business segment.
  • Represent Canada Life at various thought leadership and industry functions.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to the sales team to drive performance and achieve sector business plan objectives
  • Oversee the day to day account management of the GRS National Accounts block of business.
  • Work closely with our Investment Only team to help drive cross sale opportunities within the large case market.
  • Primary relationship accountability with consultants and plan sponsors.
  • Be an escalation point for account managers, clients and consultants.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with internal business partners.
  • Work collaboratively with respective client management counterparts to ensure customer needs are met and exceeded.
  • Coach and mentor GRS account executives within your direct team.
  • Facilitate training and development of team members.
  • Support the sales process from request for proposal to finalist presentation.
  • Promote additional products and services with consultants, plan sponsors, and service counterpart(s) to enhance client retention and drive broader Canada Life success.
  • Maintain a small caseload of large or complex clients to support their unique sales needs.

 

 

What you will bring 

  • 10+ years of sales experience in the Canadian Group Retirement Industry
  • Large client account experience preferred
  • Experience working directly with large clients and via third party consultants preferred
  • Post secondary education or equivalent work experience. Group Retirement relevant credentials preferred
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Superior communication and presentation skills required
  • An understanding of the business environment and consultant/customer needs to create competitive advantage
  • Create alignment on opportunities to drive sales results cross business line (ie: Employee Benefits/Group Retirement combination) and ensure retention of clients
  • A willingness to work to ensure resources are deployed effectively to meet customer needs balancing peaks and valleys in workload
  • A relentless desire to succeed
  • An ability to build partnerships to seek opportunity for cross sell to consultants and direct clients
  • An ability to foster an environment of innovation and openness to the perspectives and ideas of others
  • Highly effective sales skills and business knowledge are an intrinsic part of our culture and drive our success

Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Montreal, Toronto, London, Winnipeg.

The base salary for this position is between  $89,800 - $166,300 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
