We are looking for an experienced Solutions Architect
At Canada Life, the customer is at the centre of what we do. We are looking for candidates that exemplify this and can demonstrate it in their work.
Our Enterprise Architecture group is looking to hire a Solution Architect to support the Global Corporate Technology division. Reporting to the Enterprise Architect, the Solution Architect is a collaborative role that partners with others (e.g. Project Manager, Business System Analyst, Lead Developer, etc.) to form a leadership team to design solutions and support delivery.
The Solution Architect will also collaborate with their Portfolio & Technology teams as well as business leaders, sponsors, and stakeholders to develop strategies and roadmaps. They will work to define and maintain architecture artifacts for supporting project delivery and application support and lead technical vision and direction for solutions, ensuring consistency with overall enterprise and portfolio architecture that may at times include hands-on development (e.g. Proof of Concept and project development). The Solution Architect will also have an opportunity to effect change within the organization by incorporating new patterns and/or technologies into new ways of working that improve business value.
What you will do
- Define and facilitate a solution architecture that leverages enterprise capabilities and efficient usage of process, technology, data and people to align these capabilities.
- Define and maintain technical architecture in collaboration with Enterprise Architecture, supporting architectural decisions, technical vision, and technology roadmaps
- Consult with business partners and delivery stakeholders.
- Own the architectural decisions for the team and leads technical vision and direction for the solution.
- Build roadmap(s) for implementing software and technology best practices in alignment with portfolio and enterprise architecture.
- Proactively identify opportunities where solutions can enhance organizational efficiency.
- Actively coach the team to solve complex problems.
- Keep abreast of latest technological/industry trends.
- Be Trusted Technology advisor/advocate for business units.
- Support the development of technology roadmaps, best practices, and proposals to achieve business plans.
- Foster a high-performance culture within the architecture and engineering teams.
- Foster a high-performance culture for staff in the architecture team and influence this culture within IC.
- Work closely with all team members to create solutions that accommodate future architectural changes and designs, including application to capability mapping, architecture sketches and detail solution design
- Identify critical driving forces of process, data, people and technology at the highest levels.
- Ability to look beyond traditional business concepts and drill to the heart of a given concept.
What you will bring
- Bachelor Computer Science / Software Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in IT environments especially in the areas of financial systems integration and automation.
- Minimum 10 years of proven experience working as an architect related to business functional and solution delivery
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Expertise in producing clear architecture artifacts (e.g., diagrams, decision records).
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative stakeholder relationships across multiple geographies and business functions.
- Clear ability to simplify complex concepts.
- Ability to effectively communicate high-level concepts and solutions with Technology and Business teams and stakeholders.
- Advanced level of analysis of the big picture while maintaining a level of detail appropriate to the context of a variety of situations.
- Team and project leadership experience.
- Self-starter with the ability to comfortably operate in ambiguity.
- Ability to challenge; understanding how to impact and influence.
- Ability to gauge, express and communicate risk.
Assets:
- Experience in the financial services industry or in a similar complex and regulated industry.
- Experience aligning architecture with business goals and IT strategy in collaboration with delivery and infrastructure teams.
- Understanding of architecture disciplines across Business, Information (Data), Application, Technology, and Security.
- Experience with virtualization, service architectures, and cloud computing (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google).
- Experience using SAP technologies (e.g. SAP ERP, SAP S/4 HANA, SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP BW, etc.)
- Experience with various integration patterns (e.g. API, Web Services, File) and major integration platforms (e.g. Apigee, MuleESB, SAP BTP) is a plus.
- Experience in architecting data solutions using modern data platforms like MS Azure Fabric and OneLake, Databricks, Snowflake and others is a plus.
- Experience in using modelling languages and frameworks (UML, TOGAF, Archimate, 4+1 View Model, etc.) to produce architectural artifacts.
- Understanding of continuous architecture and value stream approach to business solutions
- Understanding the framework (i.e. structure, people, processes, and technology) that supports an organization’s strategy and can successfully leverage it
- Understanding of AI concepts and trends.
- A general understanding of Business Architecture and Lean Six Sigma

The base salary for this position is between $76000 - $141000 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
