Instructional Design Specialist (Student Position)

This is a student position that is 4 months in duration for the term: January-April. You must be a student registered in a Canadian College or University. This position is for students returning to school after their work term or requiring a placement as requirements for graduation. While not required, preference will be given to students enrolled in a registered Co-op program.

Reporting to the Manager, Solution Design, Wealth Delivery, the Student Instructional Design Specialist designs, edits, and implements developed learning solutions. This includes, but is not limited to, onboarding, technology learning, products, as well as operations and compliance learning materials.

 

What you will do

  • Consult with Instructional Design Specialists, alongside other members of the Wealth Strategies and Wealth Initiatives teams to understand & develop learning that meet the needs and objectives of specific target audience(s).
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to redesign and redevelop learning content for a variety of projects with the aim of meeting WCAG (2.2) standards set by Canada Life.
  • Update professional and innovative learning materials, such as: online courses, digital learning resources, learning videos, job aids, templates, and materials for facilitated sessions using advanced software authoring tools.
  • Review content for appropriate corporate updates while reviewing for accessibility impacts.
  • Document changes to content and report back weekly to the Wealth Delivery learning team on progress.
  • Lead the review process for learning content by following up with required reviewers and documenting the steps for audit purposes.
  • Maintain organized digital files according to the team’s standard processes.
  • Support Instructional Design Specialists with corporate projects, where applicable.

 

What you will bring

  • Experience with typography, editorial layouts, InDesign styles, photo editing or illustration, video production and editing.
  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools, such as Articulate 360, Camtasia, Brainshark, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Vyond, Camtasia and MS Office is an asset.
  • Experience assessing needs and developing learning programs in a corporate setting.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and methodologies is an asset.
  • Ability to apply creative and innovative skills when solving problems and designing learning programs and resources.
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize job responsibilities and work efficiently with minimal supervision in a team environment.
  • Strong written communication skills, as well as solid organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently on multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of accessibility (WCAG 2.2) best practices for instructional design is an asset.

 

 

Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Winnipeg, London and Toronto.  

 

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism is an asset (fluent in French and English) but is required for Quebec only as the position will regularly serve our clients with French and English-speaking needs.

The base salary for this position is between  $40,300 - $67,000 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.

 

For our student opportunities, the base salary will be dependent on the number of work terms you have completed along with other factors depending on your program.
