The Director, Risk and Compliance Initiatives is a key role leading the development of practices, training and methodologies to advance the first line Business Risk and Control environment. A strong collaborator and change leader will be the accountable for the advancement of practices and capabilities across four business risk and control teams at Canada Life.

 

What you will do 

 

  • Drives development and execution of consistent best practices and continuous improvement across 1B services
  • Leads training and education for the 1B organization.
  • Oversees the centralized team focused on driving effectiveness across 1B services, maintaining a focus on continuous improvement
  • Oversees the development, maintenance and promotion of consistent 1B risk and compliance methodologies, standards and leading practice
  • Oversees the development and provision of training and education to the 1B organization
  • Leads change management for 1B improvements                                                                                       
  • Develop common 1B Guidelines & Procedures
  • Develop and maintain a common approach, guidelines and procedures that could be used by all 1Bs
  • Oversee regulatory change governance and audit support.
  • Build a common approach and best practices with respect to:
  • Operational and Regulatory controls mapping
  • Operational and Regulatory control monitoring and testing
  • Issues Management
  • Reporting
  • Additional program elements for key risk and compliance programs
  • Design and evolve the controls library for use by all 1Bs

 

What you will bring 

 

  • 7+ years of overall experience
  • 4+ years of risk & compliance management or governance experience within the financial services industry
  • Excellence in collaboration, change management and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Strategic leadership with industry knowledge, deep expertise in governance, risk and compliance and an understanding of leading practices
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions and provide training on risk, resilience and compliance topics
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism is an asset (fluent in French and English) but is required for Quebec only as the position will regularly serve our clients with French and English-speaking needs

The base salary for this position is between $92,100 - $170,500 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
