Prescription drug benefits are a major component to any employee benefit program. Under the guidance of the Assistant Vice President, Drug Strategy, the successful candidate will work to evolve our management of relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, including leading and coordinating negotiations and other activities related to drug product listing agreements. Product listing agreements are essential to reducing drug costs while ensuring plan members have access to valuable treatment options and are a key component of the overall Canada Life prescription drug strategy.
The Drug Strategy team at Canda Life includes our pharmacy teams to support the drug plan listing decisions and PLA negotiations. The Director, Pharmaceutical Relationships will work closely with them and the Manager Pharmaceutical Relationships, as well as key internal stakeholders including legal, product, policy, and financial operations.
What you will do
The Director, Pharmaceutical Relationships is responsible for development and execution of the Canada Life PLA strategy as well as managing day to day PLA related activities.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Develops and executes the PLA strategy to support Canada Life plan sponsors and plan members
- Conduct formal negotiations with pharmaceutical companies including coordination of legal agreements, solicitation of approvals, and operational implementation
- Lead PLA operational activities to ensure that agreement obligations are being adhered to. This includes system setup, invoicing, dispute resolution, exception handling, and other elements such as ensuring confidentiality requirements are adhered to and assisting with client reporting
- Drive strategic initiatives to improve product listing processes and performance.
- Monitor and analyze market trends to identify opportunities for new agreements.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with market access representatives and pharmaceutical companies as well as other relevant stakeholders
- Work with stakeholders to develop success measures and reporting/measurements to ensure program performance targets are being achieved
- Representing Canada Life at industry events, conferences, as well as monitoring environmental changes and industry developments that may be relevant to prescription drugs and/or product listing agreements
- Provide support to field staff, advisors, and clients where appropriate
- Manage and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
What you will bring
- University degree, post-secondary education in a related field. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Minimum of 7 years experience in a related field
- Proven planning and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure.
- Understanding of the healthcare landscape, including health technology assessments, the pharmaceutical industry, public/private reimbursement and formulary listing processes.
- Effective decision-making and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships and proven negotiation skills
- Self-directed with an ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Creative problem-solving skills and critical thinking
- Experience with legal agreements, supplier management, market access and/or financial reporting is an asset
- Ability to travel
- Due to the high profile of a number of our clients, Federal Government Enhanced Screening is a job requirement which will involve fingerprinting and a credit check

The base salary for this position is between $92,100- $170,500 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
