As a senior leader within the Canadian Finance organization, the Director, Technical Accounting will play a strategic role in shaping and strengthening the company’s accounting framework. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity, consistency, and compliance of financial reporting across Canada Life.
The Director will serve as a trusted advisor, providing deep technical expertise and forward‑looking insights on complex transactions and strategic initiatives.
Reporting to the AVP, Accounting & Controls, the Director, Technical Accounting will be responsible for the following:
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Accounting Advisory
- Provide expert technical accounting guidance on significant, complex, and strategic initiatives, from transaction structuring through execution
- Evaluate, document, and support accounting conclusions related to business combinations, consolidations, investment transactions, and other complex arrangements
- Partner with business units to advise on appropriate accounting treatments, ensuring alignment with economic objectives and IFRS
- Support major implementation initiatives, including new accounting standards
- Stakeholder Management
- Communicate complex accounting matters and conclusions clearly, concisely, and effectively to senior management
- Proactively identify judgmental and high‑risk accounting areas and drive alignment across key stakeholders
What You Will Bring:
- CPA designation (required)
- Deep knowledge of IFRS and extensive experience applying standards in complex environments
- Proven expertise in technical accounting research and documentation
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels
Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Winnipeg, London, Toronto.

The base salary for this position is between $128,200 - $178,200 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
