Business Systems Analyst (Student Position)

This a student position that is 4 months in duration (May - August 2025). You must be a student registered in a Canadian College or University.
This position is for students returning to school after their work term or requiring a placement as requirements for graduation. While not required, preference will be given to students enrolled in a registered Co-op program.
We are looking for IT Business Systems Analyst for Technology, Canada Life & Great-West Life within the Workplace Solutions – Claims area.
What will you be doing?
- Join us in a fun, friendly, team-oriented environment, working closely with a coach/mentor
- Work on a variety of application systems that are used by the Health & Dental Claims group within Canada Life; performs analysis to determine impacts to systems
- Validates requirements and proposed solutions to stakeholder’s satisfaction and translates those processes, needs and requirements into related artifacts and documentation
- Troubleshoots simple to moderate problems to determine root-cause, requiring analysis and exploration of options, recommending solutions or preparing discussion for escalation
- Partners with developers and other team members to resolve defects, considering data and privacy requirements
- Learn how we use collaboration tools - work with our team to design and develop collaboration solutions to be used by IS team.
- Contribute learning from education experience to practical process improvement opportunities.
What will you be using?
You will be digging into a legacy system developed using a hierarchical and procedural programming language, so experience in any of these areas is a plus:
- Mainframe COBOL
- Java, C, C#/.Net, VB
- Oracle, MS SQL, DB2
What do you bring to the table?
- Are in the process of completing relevant post secondary education within a Computer Science/Engineering discipline
- Are a team player, and have solid teamwork / collaboration skills
- Have strong analysis and problem-solving skills
- Are self motivated to learn new technologies and applications
- Have the ability to manage and report on the status of individual tasks
- Can communicate effectively, both oral and written
- Have experience working within a formally organized group or team (considered an asset)
- Have relevant work, school, and/or volunteering experience (considered an asset)
- Have an interest in, understanding of, or experience with Agile development methodology
- Experience with JIRA, Confluence and Microsoft Office tools.
- Adaptable to changing assignments and product outcomes
- Directs work of self through goal setting, time management, and planning
- Is passionate about technology and the user experience, demonstrates inner self-starter, and is accepting of and open to learning new ideas outside scope or knowledge

The base salary for this position is between $40,300 - $67,000 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
