AI Governance & Reporting Intern (Student Position)

This is a student position that is 4 months in duration for the term: May-August. You must be a student registered in a Canadian College or University. 

This position is for students returning to school after their work term or requiring a placement as requirements for graduation. While not required, preference will be given to students enrolled in a registered Co-op program.

We are looking for an AI Governance & Reporting Intern to join the Canada Life Data, AI Automation & Platforms team to help us operationalize responsible AI and AI enablement across Canada Life. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Governance & Compliance 
    • Maintain the AI use‑case inventory and lifecycle records across intake, review, approvals, and monitoring. 
    • Triage AI use-cases and ensure adherence to AI policies/standards (privacy, security, legal, etc.) 
    • Support governance forums and prepare briefing materials for the AI Review Group 
  • Reporting, Dashboard and Automation 
    • Build and automate dashboards (e.g., in Power BI) showing AI use-case throughput and AI use case assessment lifecycle 
    • Produce executive‑level summaries - clear narratives, visuals, and call‑outs on trends, risks, and decisions needed. 
    • Create automated reporting flows using Power Automate (notifications, SLA reminders, approvals tracking) 
  • Data Analysis 
    • Synthesize input from Architecture, Legal, Privacy, Risk, and Responsible AI reviews to build integrated reports 
    • Analyze trends in AI adoption, tools, and KPI reporting 
  • Process Enablement 
    • Improve and maintain governance templates, checklists, and SharePoint content. 
    • Support continuous improvement of the AI governance workflow and stakeholder experience 
  • Stakeholder Collaboration  
    • Work with cross‑functional teams across Canada Life to ensure alignment on standards, controls, and reporting cadences. 
    • Partner with global and local teams working on AI, automation, analytics and reporting 

 

What You’ll Be Working With 

  • Power BI (advanced proficiency expected) - designing executive dashboards 
  • Power Automate – designing automated approval flows, reminders, and data refresh triggers 
  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint 
  • Jira, Confluence, LeanIX 
  • MS Copilot Chat, Studio and CoPilot reporting  

 

What You Bring 

  • Strong interest in AI, including foundational understanding of AI/ML, AI products and services 
  • Interest in privacy, risk, and governance in a financial services context 
  • 2–3 years of academic or project experience in analytics, tech, or business 
  • High proficiency in Power BI and Power Automate (required) 
  • Curiosity about AI and technology trends and an emerging POV on their risks and opportunities 
  • Analytical problem‑solver with strong attention to detail 
  • Clear written and verbal communicator 
  • Organized, dependable, and able to work across multiple teams

The base salary for this position is between $48,000- $71,900 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.

For our student opportunities, the base salary will be dependent on the number of work terms you have completed along with other factors depending on your program.
