We are looking for a Group Insurance Underwriting Assistant.

 

The Group Underwriting department is responsible for assessing the risk and making decisions associated with the sale of an employer benefits plan, amendments to that plan and the annual renewal of the plan.  As needed, they provide annual financial reports to clients about their plan.

 

The Underwriting Assistant supports Group Underwriters and Analysts primarily with manual rate calculations at renewal and amendment requests, plus maintains premium rates on Canada Life billing systems.  Manual rates are the first step in plan pricing and from which risk is determined.

What you will do

  • Review employee data received from the Plan Sponsor for reasonableness and accuracy then manipulate it for import into the ARC tool. 
  • Calculate manual rates for each renewal and perform analysis on the change in a group’s manual rate year over year.
  • On demand manual rate calculations to respond to Plan Sponsor queries on proposed plan changes.  Need to be able to interpret the request and offer alternatives for providing pricing if ARC cannot handle.
  • Update billing systems when renewal rates are sold and update MIS tool.
  • Assist with preparing monthly/quarterly/annual scheduled reporting.
  • Monitor the Support Team Mailbox – where on demand requests and sold renewal confirmations are sent by Underwriters.

 

What you will bring

  • Candidates must have post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in partnership with team members and many internal business departments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proficient with MS Excel and can easily learn new tools and applications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Customer service focused.
  • Willingness to work towards a GBA or full CEBS designation under the CEBS program.

The base salary for this position is between  $29,800 - $50,100 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
