As part of the IWIS/AN Data and Analytics Team you will help provide the data foundation for planning and decision making at Canada Life. You will provide technical leadership and hands-on skills to support the systems that enable the collection, integration, analysis and presentation of information to be used by the Canada Life community.
In this role you will wear many hats: building Azure Data Factory and ETL processes, writing complex SQL, and supporting operational processes in both our Data Warehouse and Microsoft Azure data hub. In addition, the role requires experienced thought leadership and ability to drive initiatives that enable our development pipelines to continually be available and capable of meeting our business partners’ needs.
What you will do
- Build data pipelines in MS Azure platform that supports the consumption of structured and unstructured data from various sources with the use of Azure Data Factory and Data Bricks
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to analyze, transform, and model large complex data sets for business insights, operational reporting, and analytics
- Develop data solutions that facilitates re-usability across various business functions
- Develop and support the creation of conceptual, logical, and physical data models
- Lead and support the migration of on-premise data solutions to the MS Azure platform
- Actively contribute and improve our data solutions and best practices
- Collaborate with internal technical stakeholders and business partners for solving data related technical issues
- Advise others on Data Modelling and the use of database technologies
- Apply enhancement and provide support for initiatives related to existing legacy databases
What you will bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or in a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in developing data solutions with a strong background in data warehousing (incorporating a Kimball dimensional design methodology)
- Strong relational database development experience in MS SQL is required
- Experience in developing ETL constructs using Informatica or an equivalent tool
- Recent development experience in MS Azure platform (Databricks, ADF), Kafka, Python (or R), Change Spark, and Data Capture (CDC)
- Previous investment and/or insurance experience will be considered an asset
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- Seeks to understand business needs, and delivers high quality service to the business while understanding the organization’s vision, purpose and values
- Passionate about technology, the user experience, demonstrates inner self starter, and is accepting of and open to learning new ideas outside scope or knowledge
- Familiar with API, microservice integration
- Explains technical issues to diverse audiences
- Decision-making: understands the costs and benefits of actions, and makes recommendations towards the most appropriate one, uses collaboration and judgement to form conclusions

The base salary for this position is between $85,200 - $135,200 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
