The Senior Analyst, Data Governance plays a key role in advancing Canada Life’s enterprise data strategy by strengthening and operationalizing data governance practices across Canada Operations & Business Enablement (COBE).

Working closely with the Director, Enterprise Data Enablement, this role balances data governance and business enablement, ensuring data is trusted, well-understood, and aligned to enterprise standards. The role also supports the implementation and ongoing management of data governance tooling, while applying structured, Agile ways of working and contributing to the delivery of data and application solutions that enable scalable, governed data use.

 

What you will do

  • Support and enhance data governance policies, standards, and processes aligned to enterprise strategy and regulatory requirements
  • Drive adoption and execution of data governance practices across business and technology teams
  • Lead hands-on activities within data governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra), including cataloging, classification, metadata, and glossary management
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure data assets are properly documented, classified, and aligned to enterprise information models
  • Apply and manage sensitivity labels, data classification, and tagging in line with data and privacy standards
  • Maintain and improve metadata (technical, business, operational) to support data discovery and usability
  • Promote and execute data quality practices, including monitoring, reporting, and supporting issue resolution
  • Support implementation of data and analytics solutions by contributing to requirements, testing, and validation to ensure governance is embedded in delivery
  • Apply Agile ways of working, including backlog management, prioritization, and iterative delivery of governance and data-related enhancements
  • Facilitate working sessions to define requirements, address blockers, and drive progress across governance and data initiatives
  • Use tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar to track work and support delivery transparency
  • Act as a connector across teams to surface gaps, improve governance adoption, and support priority data use cases
  • Translate data governance concepts into practical, easy-to-use guidance for business stakeholders

 

What you will bring

  • Experience supporting application development, data platform delivery, or technology implementations, including requirements gathering, testing, and release support
  • 1–3 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles (metadata, data quality, classification, privacy, access)
  • Nice to have Hands-on experience implementing and working with data governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra)
  • Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments (Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe)
  • Strong stakeholder collaboration skills across business and technology teams
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity and evolving priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical concepts for business audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools (Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Jira or Azure DevOps; working knowledge of SQL or Databricks is an asset
  • Experience in financial services or insurance is an asset; data governance or Agile certifications are a plu
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada  website.  The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life

The base salary for this position is between $80,400 - $130,400 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
