We are looking for a Manager, Data Governance Operations.

 

The Manager, Data Governance Operations, is part of the Enterprise Data Governance Team at Canada Life and plays an essential role in the advancement of our data strategy and maintenance of existing Data Governance Practices.  This role provides the opportunity to balance the enablement of our business with the governance of our data assets to ensure the trust and protection of the data in our care. 

The successful candidate will join a skilled team of like-minded colleagues who are naturally curious, collaborative and strive to make sense of our data, protect it, and work to enable the business to advance their data roadmaps. 

 

What you will do: 

  • Lead, contribute to, and promote excellence in data governance, a culture of innovation with data and data protection.
  • Provide motivating leadership to a team of Data Governance Professionals
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and enhancement of our data governance processes in line with our policy and standards
  • Work in partnership with our business and oversight partners to implement data governance processes across the enterprise
  • Lead the development of operational efficiencies within Data Governance to improve our ability to advance data initiatives company-wide.
  • Provide guidance to business users in their utilization of data within the bounds of established policies, standards, and existing controls while keeping an emphasis on advancing our company’s ability to innovate with data.
  • Work closely with oversight partners (Legal, Compliance, and Security) to gather inputs on data policy exceptions and process improvements.
  • Support Data Owners in their decision-making related to data utilization, access, data quality, metadata and retention.
  • Provide front-line support to our data community and translate complex topics into simple and effective statements that have impact
  • Support strategic decisions, issues, risks, and milestones related to data initiatives
  • Investigate, communicate, and report on areas of data risk
  • Contribute to and promote excellence in data governance, a culture of innovation with data and data protection

 

What you will bring:

  • 5-10 years of applied data governance experience at the leadership level
  • Strong people management skills
  • Expert in Microsoft products (PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills 
  • Agile, practical, customer service-oriented mindset (doesn’t over complicate processes)
  • Passionately curious and excited to learn new things
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced highly focused team
  • Experience in financial services and insurance is an asset
  • Data certification in Data Management or Data Governance an asset (e.g. DGSP or CDMP)
  • Working knowledge of data governance and management technology an asset (e.g. Informatica, Microsoft Purview, Collibra)
  • Loves teamwork and collaboration: collaborates on a daily basis with the data team members, business contacts, and oversight partners.
  • Open to learning and sharing: excited to share learnings with others across the company, including senior leadership and community of practice participation.
  • Has a love of data and clearly sees how it’s managed usage can move our Company forward.

The base salary for this position is between $95,000.00 - $130,000.00 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
