We are looking for a Director, Risk and Compliance to support 2nd Line oversight. The successful applicant will play a key role in regulatory compliance and risk management for Workplace solution Business with focus on Group Retirement Services. As the Director, Risk and Compliance, you will provide independent second line oversight of Regulatory Risk and Operational compliance programs for Canada Life's Workplace Solution business and provide subject matter expertise and support to peers in Canada Operations.

 

You will work directly with the first line of defence to provide expertise and guidance on risk management and regulatory compliance to support the business in meeting their requirements. You will be a positive change advocate by suggesting and implementing improvements to the overall risk and compliance culture within the business. 

 

What you will do: 

 

  • Execute second line of defense responsibilities by providing effective oversight, independent challenge, and governance of operational risk and regulatory compliance activities within the first line of business, in alignment with OSFI Guidelines E-21 (Operational Risk and Resilience) and E-13 (Regulatory Compliance Management), as well as applicable provincial regulations and other guidelines.
  • Support first line of defence in relation to regulatory requirements specific to Group Retirement business , offering expert guidance to ensure business practices remain compliant and risks are appropriately mitigated.
  • Collaborate with risk and compliance program teams and first line risk and control partners to implement program requirements including frameworks and integrate risk management processes into business operations.
  • Provide oversight and support for strategic initiatives by maintaining awareness of evolving operational risk and regulatory compliance requirements, and advising the business on potential impacts and appropriate control measures.
  • Develop and deliver timely, accurate, and insightful risk and compliance reporting to senior management, governance committees, and regulatory stakeholders, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making

 

What you will bring:

 

  • 10+ years of progressive compliance and/or operational risk experience within the financial services industry; experience within the second line of defence is an asset.
  • Professional designation or a certification in risk, compliance or governance (e.g. GRC, Operational, Enterprise Risk, Financial Risk, CPA, CFA, Legal) is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and drive change across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with risk and compliance tools is an asset.

The base salary for this position is between  $107,500 - $187,700 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
