Director, Operations Strategy

We are looking for a Director, Operations Strategy.

 

This role is a part of our Canada Operations group at Canada Life – the largest team in the Canadian organization. As part of the Central Services and Strategy team, this role – Director, Operations Strategy will play a key role in delivering a multi-horizon strategy in Canada Operations to create a tailwind from operations to drive better customer and advisor experience, operational decision making and investment, strategic planning and business case models. This role will take a lead in the centre of a complex hub and spoke matrix to ensure Canada Operations is delivering for multiple business stakeholders across the Canadian business.

 

This role reports to the Vice President, Central Services and Strategy and is a key part of the CS&S management team which includes other key functions like Business Enablement, Business Delivery, Central Operations, Financial Operations, and Workforce and Data Excellence.

 

What you will do:

  • Guide and support development of enterprise-wide business strategy by engaging senior leadership to build our corporate strategy, including:
    • Macro environment, external trends, and internal business assessment
    • Scenario analysis and implications for our business performance
    • Portfolio and business unit review, including financial modeling
    • Framing strategic options and recommending a path forward

 

  • Lead and support corporate and business unit strategy development by working closely with each vertical of Canada Operations – Claims, Contact Centres, Insurance, Wealth, and Corporate Functions and our core business units to support selected strategic initiatives and ensure alignment with the enterprise-wide vision and strategy, including:
    • Organic growth strategies
    • Portfolio optimization
    • Business capabilities and enablers
    • Enhancing productivity, efficiency, effectiveness, resiliency 

 

  • Deliver effectively in a collaborative environment:
    • Identify critical questions and issues, generate sound hypotheses, map out required data, and independently structure and plan workstreams, analytics and other required activities
    • Lead and manage teams as you drive multiple projects involving multiple stakeholders forward

 

  • Advise and influence business partners:
    • Establish relationships and develop increased confidence and trust with multiple key executives to support complex and nuanced corporate and business unit strategic agendas

 

  • Collaborate directly with Business Enablement team to ensure alignment in strategy and delivery:
    • Lead by example and actively share knowledge and support project teams to improve and build habits that develop strong capabilities and deliverables

 

What you will bring:

  • Background in strategy, consulting, or business management at a large financial services organization preferred with 8+ years experience including progressively more senior roles
  • Undergraduate degree in Business coupled with an MBA, or equivalent preferred (e.g., CFA); other comparable professional designations considered
  • Proven business acumen, with demonstrated aptitude for strategic, analytical, and critical thinking
  • Strong leadership, influencing, and relationship building skills within a matrix organization – including ability to challenge current thinking, share new and innovative ideas, and lead productive debate with executive clients to achieve better outcomes
  • Results-oriented project management skills, well organized, with high attention to detail
  • Resourceful and rapid learner, able to work across many topics and domains
  • Excellent analytical skills, including financial analysis, research, and complex modeling
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Expert in Microsoft 365 suite including PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, etc.
  • Known for coaching, mentoring, and developing team members across the strategy toolkit, including: analytics, strategic problem solving, compelling written and verbal communications, and strategy project management
  • Understanding of, or experience in, the life insurance, health insurance, wealth and asset management and/ or reinsurance industries is preferred

The base salary for this position is between  $92,100 - $170,500 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
