We are seeking a Director, National Accounts Underwriting to lead and develop a high-performing team that delivers market-leading service and a strong risk culture aligned to earnings targets. This role partners across Workplace Solutions to drive client retention and growth, strengthen consultant relationships, and influence product and sales initiatives.
What you will do:
- Drive growth and profitability of the National Accounts portfolio through disciplined underwriting and strong risk insight.
- Build and deepen high impact relationships with key consultants and Business Development partners to understand opportunities, challenges, and client needs.
- Monitor market and competitor trends (product, pricing, LIMRA, and distribution) to anticipate shifts and inform strategy.
- Translate market feedback into actionable recommendations that strengthen sales execution, persistency, and portfolio performance.
- Champion key National Accounts initiatives and influence cross-functional teams to advance strategic priorities.
- Identify, escalate and mitigate risks to the organization
- Lead and develop a high‑performing underwriting team, promoting strong risk selection, operational excellence, and profitable growth.
What you will bring:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in the financial services industry, preferably insurance
- Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada website. The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.
- As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (fluent in French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position will regularly serve our clients with French and English-speaking needs
- Professional designations such as CPA, MBA, and/or FCIA are considered an asset
- University degree in Finance, Actuarial, Economics, Business / Commerce, or a related field are considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, understand and mitigate insurance risks in a complex business environment
- Deep expertise in underwriting practices and policy development, with a clear understanding of the relationship between underwriting discipline and profitability
- A proven people leadership and talent management track record, driving both organizational outcomes and individual team member growth
- Confidence and credibility partnering with consulting firms to drive business development outcomes
- Strong experience building and managing relationships within a matrix organization, with the ability to influence and motivate industry and business development partners
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and organization and time-management abilities

The base salary for this position is between $121,200 - $171,200 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
