Canada Life is seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst to join the Insurance Solutions team. As an important part of the Performance Measurement area, this role will be responsible for supporting the data management, analysis, and reporting needs of the department. The Data Analyst supports decision making, monitors business performance, and provides actionable insights using analytics and visualizations geared to the audience.
The role will benefit from collaboration with actuaries, accountants, subject matter experts, and data scientists. If you are looking to become a subject matter expert on connected data and help guide the team in improving processes through data mining and analysis, this is the role for you.
What you will do
- Build, implement and maintain data models, custom reports, and dashboards, keeping in mind the needs of varied audiences
- Create presentations that are visually appealing and use strong communication skills to present to groups
- Identify opportunities to ingest data, prioritize data needs, and build data marts to drive efficiencies in reporting functions
- Leverage data expertise to support new initiatives through analysis and ongoing reporting throughout the entire analytics lifecycle
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to gather requirements and deliver data solutions that meets business requirements
- Support existing data owners in their data management practices ensuring a single source of truth
- Work with large datasets that are not consistent, clean, or fully modelled
- Ensure best practices are followed with respect to data governance and structure
- Communicate effectively and demonstrate critical thinking and business acumen
What you will bring
- 2+ years of relevant experience and a university or college degree in a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working with raw data and manipulating large datasets
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, Data Modelling, Power Query, DAX, and Databricks, with experience creating interactive dashboards
- Capable of working with diverse data inputs and building a data mart that aligns with business requirements
- Proven ability to learn quickly and independently and handle multiple priorities in a challenging work environment
- Ability to work with little, to no documentation or instructions
- Demonstrated attention to detail - Able to produce high quality output under strict and accelerated timelines
- Driven to improve - the organization, processes, service performance, efficiency, etc.
- Knowledge of our organization, distribution channels, products, systems, and data is an asset
- Ability to write complex SQL queries to extract and integrate data from multiple data sources
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or R
- Hands-on experience with Azure compute services and a good understanding of how Azure Data Factory pipelines work (nice to have)
Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: London and Toronto.

The base salary for this position is between $55,700 - $97,700 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
