Corporate Accountant | Great West
Permanent Full Time
Great West is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Corporate Accountant to join our External Reporting team within the Finance function. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to build a strong foundation in public company financial reporting while gaining exposure to Great West’s quarterly and annual reporting processes.
As part of a collaborative and high-performing team, you will contribute to the preparation of key external reporting deliverables, support financial analysis and reconciliations, and work closely with stakeholders across Finance and the business. This role offers broad exposure to IFRS reporting, financial statement preparation, and the communication of financial results to investors and the market.
What you will do:
- Support the preparation and enhancement of quarterly and annual external reporting deliverables, including MD&A, Supplemental Information Packages (SIP), earnings materials, and supporting disclosures.
- Assist with the drafting of MD&A commentary, financial reporting analyses, and recommendations that communicate business results and key financial trends.
- Perform financial analysis, reconciliations, variance investigations, and reporting reviews to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Conduct accounting research and contribute to technical accounting projects, including the assessment and implementation of new accounting standards and business initiatives.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Actuarial, Investor Relations, Legal, and business segments to gather, validate, and analyze information supporting external reporting.
- Prepare and maintain supporting documentation, reporting schedules, and audit-ready working papers to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of reported results.
- Contribute to process improvement, automation, and reporting efficiency initiatives that enhance the quality and effectiveness of financial reporting.
What you will bring:
Must-Have
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Recent graduate or graduating within the current academic year.
- Intention to pursue or currently pursuing a CPA designation.
- Foundational understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Nice-to-Have
- Previous internship, co-op, or work experience in accounting, audit, finance, or financial reporting.
- Exposure to IFRS accounting and financial reporting concepts.
- Experience performing financial analysis, reconciliations, or variance analysis.
- Interest in public company reporting and investor-facing disclosures.

About the Team
You will join the External Reporting team within Finance, reporting to the manager, Financial Reporting and aligned under the Global CFO organization. The team is responsible for preparing Great West's external financial reporting deliverables and partnering with stakeholders across the organization to ensure the accurate communication of financial results to the market. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to complex reporting processes while building a strong foundation for a career in Corporate Finance.
The base salary for this position is between $56,000.00 - $84,000.00 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
