Compliance Advisor

Reporting to the Manager, Compliance you will be responsible for providing first line risk and compliance support related to multiple business units within Workplace Solutions. You will support our business partners with advice and guidance on effective risk management practices to enable them to meet their regulatory compliance obligations and implement effective controls.
What you will do
Regulatory Compliance Management:
- Act as compliance representative on projects involving Group Benefits, Group Retirement Services and Freedom Experience, supporting the project team in managing timelines to ensure regulatory changes are implemented by the effective date
- Interpret new and updated legislation and regulatory requirements from provincial jurisdictions and regulatory authorities impacting Workplace Solutions
- Support the implementation of regulatory compliance controls such as accessibility and privacy
- Participate in regulatory update reviews and research legislation to provide constructive input into emerging rules and regulations and to provide appropriate guidance to the business on potential impacts
- Advise on data privacy and protection strategies and supporting initiatives to mitigate data privacy risk
- Research and respond to compliance and product & services queries from the administration teams and distribution channels including RFPs and NDAs
- Review and assist business unit in timely resolution of privacy breaches; take corrective action, as required
Risk and Compliance Policy Management:
- Support the business in updating risk policies to align to new and updated Lifeco risk policies
- Create and update compliance policies, practices, and guidelines to comply with emerging regulatory requirements
- Conduct risk and compliance policy attestations to ensure compliance with internal policies and standards, including identifying gaps and coordinating with business teams to implement corrective actions
Internal Controls Testing and Client Contract Support:
- Perform and report on results of internal control testing, including assessments of privacy-related controls, to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of processes and ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and standards
- Support the completion of control questionnaires from clients, through collaboration with business teams and technology partners, ensuring responses are accurate and timely
What you will bring
- 4+ years of experience in a financial services industry role with operational risk and compliance related accountabilities
- Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Reliability Status security clearance - this is a personnel security status that is required before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada website
- Ability to review and interpret complex material
- Mature self-starter who assumes ownership of problems and identifies creative solutions
- Strong organization skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities independently
- Dedicated team player, keen on sharing knowledge, skills and ideas with team members and business partners
- Proven ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with other areas
- Excellent analytical, strong problem-solving skills and trouble-shooting ability
- Evidence of clear and effective communications with all levels of management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with risk assessment tools is an asset
- As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism is an asset (fluent in French and English) but is required for Quebec only as the position will regularly serve our clients with French and English-speaking needs

The base salary for this position is between $58,600 - $107,500 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
