Canada Life’s Elevate (Large Case) offering provides a unique combination of products, experience and expertise that supports our advisors, their clients and our field partners throughout the entire insurance process for large case business.

 

We are looking for a Senior Underwriting Consultant to join our “easy to do business with” Premier Underwriting team. This underwriting case production role requires solid experience in medical, non-medical and financial risk selection, and experience in finding solutions for challenging cases. A commitment to client- centric, proactive communication and partnership with external and internal teams are critical aspects to this role.  We offer a fully remote working opportunity with the flexibility to attend in office events with team members as desired.

 

This opportunity requires you to review, analyze and underwrite medical, personal, and financial information to evaluate the overall risk for all applications with face amounts between $10-25M or premiums between $25-500K.  You will be responsible for guiding cases through the entire underwriting process with support from your aligned underwriting specialist, our financial underwriting team and our medical board.

What you will do

  • Apply knowledge of risk selection best practices through analysis of individual life insurance applications and supporting evidence to include medical, non-medical, and financial risk factors.
  • Ensure high quality delivery of best-in-class underwriting solutions that meet the needs of our clients.
  • Provide regular case updates to external and internal partners on case development.
  • Partner with our distribution teams, advisors and internal support teams to foster the continuous evolution of risk selection.

 

What do you need to succeed

  • Decision making authority over $7,000,000 + for Life insurance
  • Have 8+ years of experience in individual life risk assessment
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with external and internal partners to obtain favourable insurance offers
  • Knowledge of medical and non-medical risk factors with attention to detail and accuracy
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines and balance competing priorities
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with our internal and external partners
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent experience in underwriting
  • Commitment to ongoing education with a goal of attaining the Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations

The base salary for this position is between $74,500 - $137,900 annually.  This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
