We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Vice President, Assistant Chief Underwriter to join our underwriting team. The ideal candidate will assist in leading underwriting operations, ensuring compliance with company policies, and driving risk assessment strategies. This role requires strong analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and extensive knowledge of underwriting practices.

 

What will you do:

  • Assist the Chief Underwriter in managing underwriting processes and policies.  
  • Ensure underwriting decisions align with company guidelines and risk tolerance through the review of quality assurance reviews and process audits.  
  • Provide leadership and guidance for training and development of underwriters.  
  • Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and risk management teams to enhance underwriting strategies.  
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and emerging risks.  
  • Develop and implement training programs for underwriting personnel.  
  • Review and refine underwriting guidelines to maintain efficiency and profitability.  

 

What will you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.  
  • Professional designations such as FLMI, or FALU.
  • Experience in life and living benefits underwriting.
  • Minimum of 15 years of underwriting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.  
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment, insurance products, and regulatory requirements.  
  • Knowledge of reinsurance and claims evaluation a strong asset.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.  
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and data analysis tools.

The base salary for this position is between  $123,300 - $205,500 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).  If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.
