Position Overview

As an Advisor & Distribution Assessment Consultant, you will employ a consultative approach to proactively engage with distribution partners, including advisors, MGAs, and National Account partners, to build strong awareness of applicable regulatory, compliance, and conduct‑risk requirements. Leveraging your comprehensive knowledge of insurance legislation, industry guidelines, and broader compliance obligations (e.g., AML, Privacy, FATCA, CASL, FTC, AMF), you will help partners establish and maintain compliant business practices and strengthen their overall risk culture.

You will conduct reviews, deliver targeted guidance, and support distribution oversight to ensure business practices align with regulatory expectations and internal standards. You will act as a trusted resource, fostering strong relationships across the organization while providing practical, risk‑aligned advice.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide compliance oversight, support, and guidance to advisors, MGAs, and National Account partners
  • Oversee and monitor distribution partner business practices by assessing risk, conducting field reviews and site visits, and performing comprehensive advisor and firm‑level assessments to evaluate compliance strength, identify gaps, and influence appropriate corrective actions
  • Develop comprehensive assessment reports that evaluate advisor and distribution practices, documenting gaps, and providing clear, evidence-based recommendations to support effective remediation and alignment with requirements
  • Participate in and deliver compliance, conduct‑risk, and regulatory training sessions across distribution channels, including advisors, MGAs, and National Account partners, both in‑person and virtually
  • Interpret new and existing legislation at both provincial and federal levels, advising distribution partners, including advisors, MGAs, and National Account partners, on required actions and compliance expectations
  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret compliance or conduct‑risk data to support internal reporting and insights
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure distribution risks are effectively identified, mitigated, monitored, and reported
  • Apply strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills to assess complex scenarios and deliver practical, actionable recommendations

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism is an asset (fluent in French and English) but is required for Quebec only as the position will regularly serve our clients with French and English-speaking needs
  • Awareness and willing to develop knowledge of provincial insurance acts, CLHIA guidelines, Fair Treatment of Customers (FTC), needs‑based selling requirements, advisor responsibilities, licensing obligations, and unfair practice rules, along with familiarity with AML/ATF requirements, Privacy (PIPEDA), Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), Financial Service Regulatory Authority (FSRA), other provincial regulators, the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR), Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organizations (CISRO), and the Canadian Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (CAILBA)
  • Strong understanding of insurance advisor business practices, distribution operations, and compliance oversight frameworks
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and well‑structured reports and analyses
  • Relevant industry education, certifications, or designations considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship‑management skills with the ability to influence change and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to drive improvements across business practices
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and investigative skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of dashboards and Power BI for data analysis and reporting
